Our Purpose
Education for Reflective, Ethical and Competent Practice
ICPS College provides specialist education in counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, mental health and the wider helping professions. Our Professional Diplomas, Certificates, workshops and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes are designed for practising professionals, students and adult learners seeking academically rigorous education that connects directly with contemporary clinical practice.
Our educational philosophy combines academic depth with relational learning. Students are encouraged not only to understand therapeutic interventions, but also to explore why they are effective, the ethical responsibilities that accompany them, how they influence the therapeutic relationship and how the practitioner's own thoughts, emotions and responses shape safe and effective clinical practice.
Learning is designed to cultivate critical thinking, reflective practice and professional competence, enabling graduates to develop the confidence, judgement and ethical awareness required to work effectively across a wide range of therapeutic settings.
What Defines ICPS Learning
ICPS College delivers live online, lecturer-led education that prioritises interaction, discussion and active participation rather than passive distance learning.
Every programme is supported by a structured Moodle learning environment that provides access to lecture materials, directed reading, learning activities, recordings where appropriate, assessments and additional academic resources to support independent study between classes.
Teaching places strong emphasis on practical clinical skills through case discussion, formulation exercises, reflective learning and the application of theory to authentic therapeutic situations. Students are encouraged to integrate academic knowledge with professional judgement while developing the confidence to apply learning safely within their own scope of practice.
Many programmes incorporate Freudian, Lacanian and contemporary psychodynamic perspectives alongside evidence-informed therapeutic approaches, enabling learners to develop a broad and sophisticated understanding of counselling and psychotherapy.
Ethics, safeguarding, confidentiality, professional boundaries and the effective use of supervision are embedded throughout every programme, reinforcing safe, reflective and professionally accountable practice.
ICPS College welcomes practising professionals, students, career changers and adults with an interest in counselling, psychotherapy and personal development, providing an inclusive learning environment that supports learners from diverse educational and professional backgrounds.
Academic Standards & Quality
Assessment
Assessment is designed to evaluate both academic understanding and applied professional competence. Depending on the programme, students complete attendance requirements, applied clinical skills assessments and summative written assignments or viva voce examinations where appropriate.
ICPS College maintains rigorous academic standards through structured quality assurance processes that include internal moderation and, where applicable, formal two-examiner review of applied clinical skills examinations. These procedures help ensure fairness, consistency, transparency and academic integrity throughout the assessment process.
Professional Formation
Professional education extends well beyond the acquisition of knowledge. Throughout their studies, students develop ethical reasoning, reflective capacity, self-awareness, professional communication, effective boundary management and the ability to engage constructively with supervision.
Our programmes are designed to strengthen professional judgement, critical thinking and clinical decision-making, enabling graduates to integrate theory with safe, ethical and effective therapeutic practice throughout their careers.
Digital Learning
ICPS College delivers high-quality digital education that combines live teaching with structured independent learning.
Zoom provides an engaging environment for lecturer-led teaching, discussion, skills practice, breakout activities and collaborative learning. Moodle supports independent study through structured access to lecture materials, directed reading, academic resources, recordings where appropriate, assessments and supplementary learning activities.
Together, these learning platforms create a flexible yet academically rigorous educational experience that enables students to participate fully regardless of geographical location.
Values Within Our Learning Community
Respect & Dignity
ICPS College is committed to creating a learning environment founded upon mutual respect, dignity, professionalism and academic integrity. Students, lecturers and staff are expected to communicate respectfully, maintain confidentiality and recognise the value of diverse personal experiences, professional backgrounds and theoretical perspectives.
Respectful dialogue, active listening and professional conduct help create a supportive educational community where meaningful learning, critical reflection and personal growth can flourish.
Inclusivity & Non-Judgement
The College promotes an inclusive, equitable and non-discriminatory approach to education that values diversity, curiosity, openness and lifelong learning.
Students are encouraged to approach differing viewpoints with empathy, cultural sensitivity and professional responsibility while recognising the importance of inclusive therapeutic practice. Learning takes place within an environment where differences are respected and every learner is encouraged to participate fully regardless of background, identity or experience.
Boundaries & Accountability
Professional boundaries are fundamental to ethical counselling and psychotherapy practice. ICPS College therefore promotes clear communication, appropriate professional conduct, psychologically safe learning environments and adherence to College policies, procedures and professional standards throughout every programme.
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, engage constructively with feedback and uphold the ethical standards expected within the counselling and psychotherapy professions.
By fostering accountability, reflective practice and professional integrity, ICPS College prepares graduates to deliver safe, ethical and effective therapeutic services while demonstrating the professionalism expected of contemporary counselling and psychotherapy practitioners.
