Many people feel drawn to support others, whether in education, community work, HR, coaching or healthcare. If you are curious about counselling and psychotherapy, the Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy offers a foundation-level introduction to core skills and professional ethics.
This course is an ideal way to explore the field before deciding whether to commit to a longer professional training programme.
What you will learn
By completing the certificate, you will develop:
An understanding of counselling theory and ethics
Practical micro-skills: active listening, accurate reflection, open questioning, and goal setting
Awareness of safe boundaries, confidentiality, and when referral is appropriate
Reflective practice and the value of supervision
Who is the certificate for?
This course is suited to:
People exploring a future pathway in counselling or psychotherapy
Professionals in allied roles such as education, social care, healthcare, HR or coaching who want to strengthen their communication and support skills in day-to-day practice
Important: what this certificate is not
It is important to note that the Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy is not a professional qualification to practise as a counsellor or psychotherapist in Ireland. Statutory registers for counsellors and psychotherapists are being developed by CORU, the health and social care regulator. The Counsellors and Psychotherapists Registration Board has already published Standards and Criteria that will apply once the registers open. Entry to professional practice will require successful completion of an approved programme and registration with CORU.
