Complex trauma — resulting from prolonged, repeated traumatic experiences, particularly in early development — presents significant clinical challenges across counselling and psychotherapy practice. The Professional Diploma in Complex Trauma Therapy at ICPS College provides specialist training in the assessment and treatment of complex trauma presentations.

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), dissociative disorders, personality difficulties arising from developmental trauma, and relational trauma all require a specialised, phase-based, and relationally sensitive therapeutic approach. This diploma provides practitioners with both the theory and clinical skill to work in this demanding area.

Programme Overview

The ten-module programme covers the neuroscience and development of complex trauma, the phenomenology of C-PTSD, attachment disruption and developmental trauma, dissociation and structural dissociation, phase-based treatment models, stabilisation and resource building, trauma processing approaches, working with the therapeutic relationship in complex trauma, and practitioner resilience and supervision. Sixty CPD credits are awarded on completion.

Who Is This Programme For?

This diploma is designed for experienced counsellors, psychotherapists, and clinical practitioners working with complex presentations involving developmental trauma, complex PTSD, or dissociation. Some prior training in trauma is expected.
