Shame Resilience Counselling Courses Ireland: Professional Training for Practitioners

Shame is one of the most powerful and least spoken-about emotions in therapeutic work, often lying at the core of anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, and relational difficulties. The Professional Diploma in Shame Resilience at ICPS College equips practitioners with a thorough understanding of the psychology of shame and how to work with it effectively in therapeutic settings.

Drawing on the research of Brené Brown and other leading shame researchers, as well as psychodynamic, attachment, and relational perspectives, this programme provides a multi-model approach to understanding and addressing shame in clinical practice.

Programme Overview

The ten-module programme covers the nature and neurobiology of shame, shame versus guilt, shame and identity, shame in early experience and attachment, shame and trauma, shame in addiction and eating disorders, working with internalised shame, shame-sensitive therapeutic practice, and the development of shame resilience in practitioners and clients. Sixty CPD credits are awarded on completion.

Who Is This Programme For?

This diploma is designed for counsellors, psychotherapists, and mental health professionals who regularly encounter shame in clinical practice — particularly those working in the areas of addiction, trauma, eating disorders, domestic violence, and identity.

The Professional Diploma in Guilt and Self-Forgiveness, the Professional Diploma in Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy, and the Professional Diploma in Addiction Studies are frequently combined with this diploma for a comprehensive emotional-process-focused training profile.
